1. What is the News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage)?

This is an insurance plan on the News Tablet device offered to Singapore Press Holdings Limited’s (“SPH”) subscribers who have signed up for an eligible News Tablet Subscription.  The News Tablet must be issued under the News Tablet Subscription by SPH, and the date of insurance activation must be within thirty (30) months from the initial date of issuance of the News Tablet.

The News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage) is underwritten by Great Eastern General Insurance Limited (“Great Eastern”).

 

2. What coverage does the News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage) provide?

One (1) repair or one (1) replacement of your News Tablet device due to loss or accidental, sudden, unforeseen and unexpected events, up to the limit of your Tablet’s sum insured.

3. Does coverage apply if the loss or accidental damage occurs overseas?

No, the coverage applies within Singapore only.

 

 4. What is the duration of coverage provided?

The duration of your News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage) will be 12 months.

 

5. When will coverage for the News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage) commence?

Your News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage) commences one (1) day after receiving a confirmation e-mail from Great Eastern on the date of activation.

 

6. My News Tablet is already damaged. Will my tablet still be covered under this protection plan?
No, any damage to your device prior to the activation of your protection plan will not be eligible for coverage.

 

7. Can I cancel the coverage once it has commenced?

No, cancellation is not applicable.

Eligibility

1. Who is eligible for the News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage)?

All Singapore Citizens, permanent residents and foreign workers above the age of 18 years old, who reside in Singapore and have work permits or passes which are valid for at least 24 months from date of activation of the insurance coverage.

 

2. Do I have to pay for the coverage?

Yes, you will have to pay a premium as indicated on the SPH website during your purchase.

 

3. How do I purchase the News Tablet Device Protection Plan (1 year coverage)?

You may purchase the plan in this few simple steps:

  • Click on ‘Buy Now’ and proceed to check-out.
  • Upon successful payment, you will receive an email from SPH containing a unique activation code to activate your coverage.
  • Visit Great Eastern’s website at sg.gelife.co/sphtabext to activate your coverage with the unique activation code.
  • Upon successful activation, you will receive a confirmation email from Great Eastern containing details of your coverage.

 

4. Can I further extend my coverage after the coverage duration?

No, the coverage expires at the end of the coverage duration and is not eligible for an extension.

Claims

1. How many claims can I submit?

Each insured’s News Tablet is only eligible for claims of one (1) repair or one (1) replacement within the coverage duration. Once a claim has been successfully paid, the policy will cease.

 

2. How do I file a claim?

For damaged tablets, you must visit a Samsung Service Centre (as listed below) in Singapore to repair your damaged tablet.

(A) For damaged tablets:

  • Notify Great Eastern of the damage within fourteen (14) days via email (wecare-sg@greateasternlife.com) or our Customer Service hotline (1800 248 2888).
  • Approach a Samsung service centre in Singapore to repair your damaged tablet.
  • Upon repair, Samsung service centre will issue you with a service order sheet with details and cost of the repair. You will have to pay for the repair first.
  • Submit the claim form together with the service order sheet to Great Eastern within thirty (30) days of the damage to claim for a reimbursement. The reimbursed amount will be 90% of the repair price or up to the sum insured of your tablet, whichever is lower. The remaining 10% is co-payed by you; referred to as “excess” in the policy.

 

(B) For damaged tablets that are beyond repair:

  • Notify Great Eastern of the damage within fourteen (14) days via email (wecare-sg@greateasternlife.com) or our Customer Service hotline (1800 248 2888).
  • Approach a Samsung service centre in Singapore to repair your damaged tablet.
  • Should the tablet be damaged beyond repair, Samsung service centre will certify so in the service order sheet.
  • Contact SPH directly to purchase a replacement tablet. You will have to pay for the purchase first.
  • Submit the claim form together with the service order sheet and replacement purchase receipt to Great Eastern within thirty (30) days of the damage to claim for reimbursement. For tablet replacements, the tablet’s value at the time of loss will be calculated via an annual straight-line depreciation of 20%, apportioned on a monthly basis. No. Only repairs and replacements done at a Samsung Service Centre in Singapore will qualify for making a claim.
